Foods for the winter months… Garlic

Not only do they keep away the vampires but during the winter months garlic is a great food to boost your immune system and ward off colds and flu. An old folk remedy is to eat a clove of garlic that has been dipped in honey at the first sign of a cold.

Garlic contains high levels of iodine which can make it a very effective treatment for hyperthyroid conditions.

Anyone can Spin, it’s such an easy concept and at the end of the day you are just riding a bike to music without the risk of falling off or being knocked over. The class requires only minimal coordination and our classes can cater from the novice to the competitive road cyclist.

Where did it come from?

Spin was first devised in the 1980s when an ex road cyclist built his own version of a Spin bike which he used in his garage in the US. The concept quickly grew and now Spin classes are held all over the world and Spin is probably now the world’s most popular group fitness class.

Couch to 5k

Have you thought about completing the Race for Life or jog for fitness?

Here’s some hints and tips to help you take the first step out of the door and keep you on track when it gets hard and your motivation dips.

  • Forget distance and run for time. Start with 15-20 minutes and build up to 30-40 minutes over months, not weeks.
  • At first, don’t try and run continuously. Run-walk-run-walk- run- walk-  admire the bluebells-run-walk-listen to the birds-run-walk etc. Also, don’t run on consecutive days, running three times a week is ideal!
